Sunday Prayer

“Open my lips, Lord, and my mouth will declare your praise. You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burn offerings. My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.”
  • Psalm 51:15-17

In lieu of a devotion, I offer you this Sunday prayer from one whose life and faith and love has impacted millions around the world, St. Francis of Assisi.

The Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not seek so much
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.

P.S. I love a song titled “Peace Prayer” by John Michael Talbot. A YouTube rendition of it can be found here.
